April 2010
Dear Member,
Well, spring finally seems
to have sprung, and after a snowy December and January, hopefully we have seen
the last of the dreaded white stuff and can look forward to some decent weather
and lighter nights!
Our summer show programme for
2010 is now finalised, and the dates are confirmed below. You will notice a change this year away from
the combined Dressage and Jumping shows back to separate shows for each
discipline. We hope that this will allow
people who only wish to jump or compete at the dressage shows to lend a hand on
days when they are not competing. Any comments on this are welcome.
April - Mini
Express Eventing: Sunday 18th
May - Dressage:
Sunday
9th
Show Jumping: Saturday
22nd
June - Dressage: Saturday
5th
Show Jumping: Sunday 20th
July - Dressage: Sunday 11th
Show
Jumping: Saturday 24th
August - Dressage: Saturday 7th
Show Jumping: Sunday 22nd
September

The Schedule for the April
Mini Express Eventing is now on the website.
The Mini Express Event is a fun event, and was very well attended last
year. It consists of a dressage test followed ½ hour later by a round of cross
country jumps (the working hunter jumps with tyres, bales and barrels) and a
round of the polyjumps. If it is a
success we are planning to run another one in September again as our final
event for the year.
Show jumping shows may
include clear round and style jumping classes this year – look out for these on
show schedules. More information regarding these classes will be available from
Sandra Morrison at our Meet the Experts
night
We are also planning a
series of talks and events, starting with a ‘Meet the Experts’ night at the
Tranmare Hotel in Tranent on April 22.
If you have any questions regarding your horses health, nutrition or are
just interested in some schooling ideas, please come along to find out more.
We have also just arranged
two dates for lessons with dressage rider Lauren O’Hagan at Redcoll Farm. These
are on Saturday 24th April and Sunday 2nd May.
Also, the club’s Facebook
page (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=8471017209) has now been resurrected,
so if you’re on Facebook, please join to receive updates on club news and
events.
We are aware that the club has
had major difficulties in terms of helpers, but there has been an increase in
committee members, however, most of us are complete beginners at this, so we
would therefore ask that members continue to make every effort to help and plus
we all want to compete too! We all want the club to be a success.
So, we must now insist that each member comes forward to offer
assistance, either on the committee or helping at shows, otherwise the Club may
be forced to close. We have a fantastic venue
at Hodges, we have brand new equipment thanks to a lottery grant, and we would
hate to lose all this through apathy.
Please phone, text or email us to offer your support.
For the April show, we need
–
Set up arenas (Thursday 15
April) - from
Dressage writers (1) – 9.15
am to 1 pm
Dressage steward – times as
above
Caravan (numbers/scoring
etc)(2) – 8.30 am to 11 a.m.;
Jumping steward (2)–
Pole helpers for jumping
(2) – times as above
Jumps dismantling –
Times are approximate only
and will depend on the number of entries.
And that’s only the April
show, we have all the rest to run as well so if you cannot help at this one
then volunteer for another date. Please
help – we are depending on you to keep the Club going.
Finally, due to other
commitments, Susan has sadly had to resign from the position of Secretary &
Treasurer. The secretary role has been
taken on by Aileen Burnett, and the treasurer role by Michelle Gray. Many thanks to Susan for all her hard work.
